Students can experience the thrill of sailing and enjoy meeting new friends by taking sailing classes in the
summer and fall. The youth sailing program is open to
boys and girls 8 to 18, and participants need not be
members of the Waikiki Yacht Club.
Fundamental skills enable novice sailors to quickly
sail on their own, while advanced classes lead to
competitive sailing. Pre-teen novice, novice,
intermediate, advanced, and junior Olympic classes
are taught by U.S. Sailing-certified instructors on
International El Toro and International 420 boats.
Sailing instructors also hold First Aid and CPR
credentials.
Head Start on Summer: Session1: May 24-28; Session2: June 2-4

Hawaii is the only state in which an entire league has recognized sailing as a sport. The Interscholastic League of Honolulu is an organization of 27 schools and has recognized sailing as a sport. Currently, ten schools participate in regattas leading up to the ILH championship. In collaboration with the Hawaii Yacht Club and the Kaneohe Yacht Club, the Waikiki Yacht Club hosts junior varsity and varsity sailing championships for these schools. WYC members volunteer their time to support the young sailors and staff the regattas. |
