Honolulu Sail & Power Squadron Classes at WYC:
HAR 13-244-15.5 requires that all operators of power-driven vessels in state waters propelled by greater than 10-hp motors, including sailboats with auxiliary motors, complete Mandatory Boating Safety Education and have proof of certification by November 10, 2014.

The Honolulu Sail & Power Squadron, a local unit of the United States Power Squadrons, is offering the ABC Boating Safety Class over three consecutive Tuesdays, starting March 25, at the Waikiki Yacht Club from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This course meets the State of Hawaii requirements as a certified boating safety course and is recognized by the Hawaii Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation.


This course will teach the basics of safe boat operation and piloting, is recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard and has been approved by the National Association of State Boating Administrators.

Advanced Piloting/Navigation Class for Boaters  (8 weeks)
Monday, February 24; 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Learn coastal and inland navigation.

Seamanship/Rules of the Road Class  (7 weeks)
Wednesday, February 26; 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Sail Class  (5 weeks)
Saturday, March 1; 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Prepay Cost: $125

Mandatory Boating Safety Class  (3 consecutive Saturday mornings)
Saturday, March 8, 15, and 27 ; 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Cost: $50 Prepay only to hold seat
This is the Hawaii Mandatory Boating Safety Class that goes into effect on November 10, 2014, for anyone operating a boat in the state of Hawaii.

Marine Electrical Systems Class  (8 weeks)
Wednesday, April 15; 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Cost: Must pre-register and call for pricing
Learn about onboard electrical - both AC and DC, electrical circuits, wiring, terminating, routing wiring for safety and trouble-free operation. How to use multimeters and tools to check, diagnose/repair electrical problems. Learn galvanic corrosion, stray currents, isolation, grounding and safety of electrical systems.
